Why has the internet fallen in love with one of gaming's most inflammatory execs?

It was almost as though the PlayStation Meeting video invite, which Sony published online on Jan 31, had some kind of subliminal message encoded within it. It was as though, somewhere between the video's shapes and sounds, a message lied, feeding into our subconscious minds the thought that Kaz Hirai will save us all.... read more

I don't think I've ever been this nervous/ excited for a new console debut before, this is really make or break for not just the Playstation brand but Sony themselves.

They just have to pull it off!

The sheer volume of bullshit that came out of Sony a few years back has absolutely dented their image to me and although I do own and have owned all the Sony products with the exception of Vita they are, as a brand, a shadow of their former selves. I do hope they show something extraordinary later with PS4, and I have high hopes for it but the brand has a long way to go.

To be totally honest I don't get why people like any of these big company leader types. All 3 of the console 1's strike me as total wankers

B-but Kaz is as close to a gamer out of the three of them.

That's why he is popular - he is the Playstation man that now finds himself suddenly in control of the whole of Sony. Because of his background there is great optimism he will deliver what the Playstation fans want.

the gifs make him seem more like a mascot than a 'savior' or 'hero'. i always thought he was out of step with gaming consumers.

Reggie would still have him in a fight. Kaz's body will never be ready for that.

Because they are. They or he might be gamers but they are businessmen. Well salesmen. Which is just another word for 'a total s**t who would sell you your own spleen if he could'. They may walk about with big smiles but inside you know they're thinking about how they can rape your wallet.
Some say he's half man, half fish. Others say its more of a 70/30 split. Whatever the percentage, he's one fishy bastard.

I forgot just how much rubbish Sony came out with back then.

How could anyone not like Iwata? He's brilliant for a CEO. Reggie is a total cock, but at least Nintendo's Japanese heads actually come from the gaming industry. You don't have to like Nintendo, but at least they have some humility.

Ken Kutaragi was the outspoken one Kaz Hirai is generally diplomatic although he hasn't been a flawless picture of PR utopia. You guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill. The reason Kaz's rise was quick was because of Ken K's loose lips and saying flat out stupid s**t. Dude was an engineering genius and shouldn't have been given so much access to a microphone.
