Revengeance marred by easily-fixable problems

Right up front in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Raiden's gruff Russian employer Boris reminds him that, 'this is not an infiltration mission.' As in, this is not, under any circumstances, a regular Metal Gear Solid game. Yes, you can go full-on stealth if you're so inclined - but, in truth, this third-person fighter is created for one thing: the art of confrontation.... read more

I'm a massive MGS fan so despite the 'decent but not brilliant' review I'm still getting the game

The thought of a Metal Gear game being out there and I have not played it, can't be, it shall be mine

Still gonna pick this up but the 6 hour campaign is a bit disappointing, im just over hal way through DMC just now and ive put more time into that game already than this one actually lasts.

So only 1.3 better than Aliens CM? I'll risk it. ;)

@Stone: Then you're playing DMC wrong, that's supposed to be like 6-8 hours long

Are you shitting me. The parrying works fine once you've gotten used to it. It has a block button. its x and towards and enemy when they show you an incredibly obvious tell. you know that huge red glint coming from their eye.

Only time i had a problem with it was in the final boss fight and that was more because the guy is utterly relentless and hits like a mule.

Here's my review if anyones interested on an alternative take.

Nah, I was just taking the p**s out of myself because I was defending the 'parry' design so strongly not so long ago.

Either way it scored half a point here more than Vanquish (which is one of my all time best-games) so should be a good crack.

The problem, from the demo and looks like the full game, is considering how important parry is its not explained well enough or at all by the game.

I'll play it but my hopes aren't high like a Metal Gear game would get them usually. Sounds like a weekend rental rather than full price buy.
Here's a lockpick, now jog on.

Nah, doing all the secret rooms and JUST HAVING to find all the lost souls is eating up loads of my time . . . . . Plus I do die a lot as well  .

I for one am glad that they don't hold your hand with how combat works.

It's funny how a game is considered too easy if they force you through tutorial hoops
and then when a game comes along and says "adapt or die" suddenly everyone and their
mother complains.

I like the way a lack of a dedicated block button highlights the players that like to sit
around and depend on "lazy action". The parry mechanic forces you to move!

I'll be picking this up on Friday and cannot wait.

The demo was a chore to play through, and that comes from both a Metal gear and BTA fan...

As for the comment in the review about (I paraphrase) the numerous gameplay shortcomings being balanced by sheer spectacle, isn't this exactly what we blame actual gaming for? How's that supposed to be lauding in the first place?
