First hands-on with the World Series of Racing

Who is the greatest racer in the world? It's a question loaded with caveats and conditions because there are so many different types of car. Racing say, an F1 car requires a different set of skills compared to racing an American muscle car. It's the main question in Grid 2's single-player campaign though, and it's one that's answered in a unique way.... read more

Grid 2 single-player is like Gladiators with cars

Any news on whether it will have split-screen? On PC, Dirt 3 will let you not only do split-screen, but use two monitors. So... each person gets their own entire monitor/tv lol.

I hope this isn't another one of those racers with everybody saying 'dude' and full of flashy menus and 'cool' music. It sounds like it is.

The WSR idea sounds interesting.

I'll keep an eye on it.

Seems like GAME have the exclusive once again and are charging a silly price. The GAME exclusive has 2 extra routes on one track, so it's nothing to write home about. But I'm hoping Grid 2 isn't like Grid which had such annoying AI. All of Codemaster's racers from Dirt, they always drop down to under £15, so I'll be holding on.

No cockpit view because hardly anyone plays racing games like that (surveys and all that...). Plus the extra time to include it in a game, costs extra money, so you could say it was down to cost cutting to make more profit. But as mentioned, it'll soon drop to under £15 new.

I'd much rather it was a decent racing game with cars.....and on top of that cars that had a cockpit.

I'll take a look once the modders have imported the cockpit from other games and fixed the viewpoint. I really have no interest pretending I'm driving a car from 10 feet behind and 5 feet above it.

To be fair, it does still have a bonnet cam and a bumper cam. It may not have a cockpit view but you don't have to play in chase cam either.

You do realise how long it would take to create a high res cockpit view for each and every car? Since hardly anyone uses that view [as it's often distracting /restrictive].Wouldn't that time be better spent on making the graphics top notch? Because be in no doubt, to have visually detailed car interiors , it'd mean scrificing exterior detail in the performance trade off. i.e., Why should those who don't use that view, get a graphically inferior game?

Personally I never use the cockpit view, for starters, it's visually inaccurate, you have a sharply in-focus cockpit, dials, gloved hands and wheel etc, so you have a in-focus near view and sharp distant road view at the same time? Plus, most play with their own gaming steering wheel right in front of them. , so there's 2 steering wheels , how does that add to immersion?

You've obviously never played Project CARS with a G27 and 3 monitors.

Proper racing games, like Project CARS, have an option to remove the steering wheel. Having it there doesn't affect immersion anyway.

That's not likely to be most people's set up though, is it?

And again , it all comes back to the fact that there's only so much performance and computing resources and what you take out of the world to create a nice car cockpit views the track and road loses by. People demand the impossible; better looking games each iteration, on what is basically unchanged nearly ten years out of date console HW. Grid 2 would probably have been better going next gen launch title imho.
