You're the reviewer: 2012 Edition

Postby MrPirtniw » 19 Dec 2012, 19:31

How the actual f**k is Fez so low down??

Not sure which game I'd put as my game of the year... I thoroughly enjoyed Xcom despite its flaws. I loved Halo 4 despite it not being quite as good as I was hoping for it to be. Hmm... In fact I've enjoyed quite a lot of games this year but none of them have really wowed me like previous years. Too much hype maybe?

Mass Effect 3 wins my most disappointing game of the year award. Gutted (and no, that's not even teeing the ending into account).

Is there any way that the top thirty games in the list could have links to the relevant page to vote for them? I got to page nine and lost interest. I didn't vote for anything.

Same with Journey. Both poo on some the me-too sequels on this list from a massive height.

Regarding not voting for games you haven't played, you can't complete the voting. I tried to skip forward a few times and it kept taking me to FIFA 13 all the time.

I'm hoping to get dishonoured, sleeping dogs and far cry 3 for xmas. I'll vote when I've played them for a substantial time.So far, it's between Max Payne 3 and Hitman Absolution but that could change.
I wish CVG would stop giving Peter Molyneux publicity

Halo 4, Sleeping Dogs and The Walking Dead, have been my standout games this year. Have a feeling Far Cry 3 will top them, when I get round to it.

The LBP Vita, Fez and Mark of the Ninja positions make me weep for the current generation of 'gamers'.

The Walking Dead all the way. Don't watch the show, but the game is a standout for how a story should be told. Why is fez so low?

I already listed my 2012 favourites, but here are some special mentions...

Best game music: Gunlord (Dreamcast).

I've unfortunately not had a chance to play this obscure German indie game - which is a 2012 release - but based on the gameplay videos, it's the hands down winner of this category with its cool, electric old-school tunes.

Best visuals: tie between Journey / Mass Effect 3 / SSX / Assasin's Creed 3 (just my opinion, quite a few graphically fine games this year)

Best mobile game: Hill Climb Racing (silly, but addictive), Angry Birds Star Wars (even sillier, but apparently I can't stop playing it :? )

Biggest positive surprises of 2012: The Walking Dead, for making the old adventure genre exciting again, Xcom for doing the same for turn-based strategy, and SSX for successfully rebooting a much-loved but faded franchise.

(Still) the most underrated game in 2012: NFS the Run. It's a 2011 game, but since I only bought it this year and was stunned by the awesomeness of the game, it deserves a mention. The PC version looks absolutely super-fantastic on ultra settings on a big screen and the very fast and sharp gameplay is bliss for fans of pedal to the metal arcade racers like OutRun and Daytona.

Vote for Binary Domain you plebs!

I am allowed to say that aren't I. I'm not a Tory that rides a bike so I can't see why not.

I've only played a few hours of Far Cry 3, my early impression is that it's a tad overhyped. It's a good game and it does look great but the AI is ridiculously dumb. I just couldn't be arsed with it after a while and fired up Tomb Raider Anniversary on my PSP instead!

I realised that I haven't played most games on that list so no game lulls for me in 2013. :)

Sadly I haven't had chance to play many games from that list, but Journey would go straight to the top for me. Outstanding.

Man, these polls are so damn annoying. Why not just have a LIST when there are so many games?!
Or is your web development team incapable of creating lists and processing radio buttons?
