We want to keep improving CVG - tell us what you want

Postby Rob Crossley » 14 Jun 2012, 11:17

Hello all

We know that surveys are annoying.

However, in this case, our latest survey will give us a good idea of how we should continue improving the site.

We want CVG to be as good as it can and meet the standards of our community.

Here's the survey:

well said, its a bloody disaster and looking at other comments on the forum its driving people away from the site.

it might help if cvg videos were actually watchable but apart from the adverts the actual content is like watching a flickbook most of the time.

Well that's me done with this site.

Can't stand those auto playing videos any more. I come here for news etc not to be assaulted every damn time I come here.

Take them off and I'll come back, and I'm not the only one who hates them.

yup.

sadly you're in a fatal downward spiral. you redesigned the site... no-one liked it, it's ghastly and horrid looking: people vacated the premises.

now, ads pull in less revenue due to less users (i.e. hits) so you try to counter-act this by plastering even more ads all over the joint. this p**ses even more people off.

on that subject - the short articles that span 10 pages (not an exaggeration, sadly) WTF, seriously.

and a biggie - reviews without integrity. the RE6 debacle was CVG at its best. it was the most amount of comments you got in a long while - and 99% of them were slating you... that should not be ignored.

Rob, with respect - yourself tried to respond in some sort of quell-attempt, which didn't go well at all. you tried to blame the review or the reviwer Rich, a freelancer. trying to scapegoat it, or make an excuse, because the review did not match the score. people knew the game was a stinker, they seen it a long way off - other reviews confirmed it - even your own review confirmed it, with the famous 'not worth full price' line. THEN you slap a respectable 8/10 on the end.

now Rich, the athour of that review has a 13 page thread on another forum slating CVG, amongst other things he says he is embarrased to be associated with the site.

it asks the question - why did the game get a score that it didn't deserve? that goes right back to integrity.....

look at eurogamer. they have integrity. they gave RE6 a 6/10 and had RE6 adverts on the site. that's the kind of honesty you can bring to your reviews when you have that type of integrity and are not dictated by outside forces...

capcom can't say jack s**t as they have the hits, they are in a strong place.

when you buckle to pressure, your integrity suffers - your integrity suffers, your readership suffers - your readership suffers, your advertising revenue suffers... then what are you left with?!

you become a burnt out shell of a once-great site, of a once great mag. a real shame, as this used to be a great site.

i know how i would fix the site, and design is part of the problem, but you know best.

frankly i'd revert back to the old site, call it retro week or something, then grow some balls, if some rep whinged about their review score, boot him in the balls... bring us some honest reviews and great user-friendly articles.

n.b. this is intended for constructive purposes, from a once-happy reader.

turn this place around, bring back the glory days. and ditch the tabloid look and feel, and bring back some attitude.

over and out.

I like things as they are.
Childhood pictures redeem, clean and so serene
See myself without ruining lines
Whole days throwing sticks into streams

I have crawled so far sideways
I recognise dim traces of creation

I don't even read the front page anymore, I try to stick to forums and now that is becoming a shambles too :?

It's clear that eventually the regs will jump ship, something needs to be done before they do.

He just doesn't seem up for it. Instead of helping Stonecold in the article section he stays on the Nintendo section or goes overboard only when called upon elsewhere. It's got to the point where you worry about what you write just in case he takes it completely wrong or misses the point.

Stonecold seems to be the only one regularly on and getting himself around. He needs more help, which he's admitted to himself. You can't have global mods that only stick to one part of the forum. They should be regular posters that mingle and have no bias.

Other than that i'm still laughing at SVD saying he was once happy!
Here's a lockpick, now jog on.

So people think there should be more mods, and review the current mods? Please confirm

Is there anything else we can do?

Yeah that seems about right, a review and actual regular users being asked. There are a couple of mods I haven't ever even seen in my time here. Then some that only seem to do anything when it suits them.

Everything else is alright to me with the news and articles now you've cut down on the multiple pages for some.

I could murder a cup of tea with two sugars though if you're offering.

Any chance you could bring back the blue colour scheme?

That's a serious request.
