Gaming Novels

Postby slick loose » 28 Dec 2012, 16:59

So yeah, the Wife got me Assassins Creed: Forsaken for Christmas, I did a little research and found out it's the latest book in a series of 5. I'm more than willing to buy the other 4 and I'm even thinking of playing the games that they correspond with (I gave up after ACII as the I found the series incredibly repetitive).

Anyway, I found out today that there is also a BioShock novel which covers the events in Rapture up to "a point before the first game", which sounds really interesting to me.

My question is, do any of you read or have read gaming novels? Are their any good ones out there? Or should I stay away and read 'proper' books instead?

I've only read one, Resident Evil City of the Dead and that was alright. It's based on the second game and gives more backstory and such.

That was part of a set according to this.

Wow, those covers look like shite...

I suppose you should never judge a book by it's cover...except maybe this once

I never thought I'd see the day a lad dragged up from the gutter in the mean ghetto streets would be so snobberising over covers.

Is snobberising even a word? If not it bloody well should be!

Well fine, you wait for some right boring sods to recommend the Halo books. I'm going to read the agony aunt bit in the paper while taking a dump like usual!

Those Res books are alright just don't get 2 or 4 cause they are beyond shite ! the Uncharted books quite good as well.

As for other gamin novels well the obvious ones are the halo books. Iv got contact harvest , fall of reach , the flood , first strike , ghosts of onyx , Glasslands and the Thursday war ( the last three are properly good ! ) there's also the cole protocol and the forerunner trilogy but those I haven't got so I can't say whether their any good or not.

That's all the ones that I have but there's loads more out there. I know there some for Dues ex , command and conquer , dead space that expand the fiction and ones for god of war And metel gear that are straight up books of the games I believe .

Not a novel based on a game but it is a novel about gaming is ready player one , put of every thing that iv said that is the one I'd recommend above all the others cause its fantastic !

EDIT- Bastard I just noticed what Mag wrote and I'm the boring sod it seems  ah well I'll go back to reading my stargate books now...............

Hmmm.... Never really thought about it. That Uncharted book would seem like the most logical place to start for me. I might get that.

Am I Ultra Cool now?!

Mistook this thread for one about visual novels. Anyway most of the gaming novels I've seen are from series that I could not care less about (Assassins Creed, Halo, Uncharted etc) though I do want to read the Homefront one. Otherwise I've read the (surprisingly not awul) Ratchet and Clank comics but they don't count do they?
