:? Great f**king future to look forwards too eh? That's FF13-2 at the casino playing single player. 2 games can be played, slots or cards.... only slots if you don't cough up extra cash to play the cards game. I f**king hate that it rubs it in your face like that and its my missus that's playing it not me.

I was going to buy FF13-2 but they can get f**ked if they're having any of my cash. I know some of you will get all snotty saying "but they need extra cash" or "you don't have to buy it" but it really does turn me off gaming when I see s**t like that. It maybe something so small, but locking the content and showing it you really p**ses me off. It's just a great way to take you out of the game ain't it?

I know single player content being locked isn't new, and I know some games advertise DLC like the disgusting Dirt 3 but this to me is even worse! Regardless how small or crap the content maybe, its that its been locked out to purchase in the f**king future!

It's the same as Capcom with their on disc DLC, but Square are rubbing it in your nose and laughing as some of these gamers are ruining gaming for everyone else. I only get so upset about it because it's ruining my hobby, I can't buy any more of Crapcoms games because of the way they treat us. I can't support any developer that tries to treat me like a mong that doesn't think before spending.
/rant over.

*awaits to be told to get over it and soak it up as its good for everyone, and that we all have choices or some b*****ks of an excuse to accept it*

I've always said from the very start it'll be like this, it's happened sooner than I thought. I bet this was Squares test to see if anyone says anything. Next up will be certain sidequests being in the game but locked until you cough up or Chocobo Racing being unlocked Via DLC?

Stuff like that is so stupid from a business point of view IMO. The customer should feel like DLC is something they can buy to add to an already great game, not so they can access stuff in the game they have already bought. That screenshot above would be such a massive turn off for me. Dunno if I could keep on going with it. If they had just not had it in at all and then revealed it as DLC there'd be no fuss. It's so stupid.

After the terrible ending in ME3 it really rubbed it in that the first thing you saw was a message that you can replay the game or buy DLC. It's not a great example cos if the ending had been really good I would have bitten their arm off, but it was still annoying to read nonetheless.

Buying something new and unlocking a new character or something is fine in my eyes, but just locking out parts of the game and putting a 'in future DLC' message is just way too far.

Have to accept it mate, it's just like buying a car then told you need insurance and road tax and loads of other s**t, or watching the trailers before a film or the adverts during telly. Life is just one big commercial trying to get more coin from you.

Everytime I fire up Halo Reach multiplayer a message pops up asking me if I want to buy some DLC, it's not like an advert that disappears in seconds or a message on the side you can just ignore, it will stay on your screen until you say no.

The thing is, that every time I fire up 360 I feel like being ripped off, from the annoying dashboard to constant messages in games. As for publishers, well, devs got paid already when their game is out, so I'm buying brand new games if I feel that they deserve my money.

Tbh this industry is fortunate they don't have a watchdog group dedicated solely to them because that is diabolical.

That pretty much sums it up. Releasing DLC with new multiplayer maps is one thing, but blocking off parts off the game is another. It's like they're shooting themselves in the foot. And unless I really wanted the game, I simply wouldn't buy it.

there should be no such thing as dlc, they should finish the damned games before they put them on sale, expansion packs are different of course as they actually add to a game rather than sell you other bits of what you already bought, it really is that simple but the problem is idiots buy it, if they didnt it would stop.

Thing is, the more they do this s**t, the less chance of me ever buying their games again. I've always loved Square-Enix as a publisher but they can go f**k themselves if I'm ever buying another FF game again, it's my favourite franchise but they killed it with FF13 and now with this DLC b*****ks they can kiss my money goodbye. 2nd hand for these scumbags from now on.

So EA, Crapcom and Square-Enix don't want any of my cash. Theres a good few others that I will be waiting until sub £20 as well. Will I make a difference? Of course not. But at least I feel better for not mugging myself, and I don't need games in my life. And worse come to worse? I've a huge catalogue of games on my HDD going right back to the NES.

I keep saying that we need some trading standards implemented specifically for the gaming industry. At the moment its basically a wild west industry that needs cleaned up. There should be a legal warning printed onto game thats warn the user that there is DLC needed for some on disc content.

As for Capcom, they're just unexplainable. It's like they wanted to ruin their creditibility by acually admiting that they're doing the biggest tabboos like taking the CoD route and selling games with minimial content and large amounts of DLC content.

Unfortunately its the consumers who are fueling the schemes. I mean bloody Skyrim DLC won the game of the year award.

Its hard these days to buy a game that hasn't been segregated by DLC maps or console exclusive DLC.
EA Sports: It's in the game(for a price).

Reach is about the only one I can think of in terms of DLC where the maps haven't messed everything up , there's a set playlist if you want to only play on those maps and all the other playlists will only bring those maps up if everyone has them so you can play without having them with not a problem.

I agree with you as a whole (Especially regarding Capcom) but I think that statement is slightly unfair. You do get a lot of content with COD when you think about it. The campaign is normally at least 8 hours long (MW2 aside) and then you get the multiplayer and the spec ops/Zombie modes which are normally pretty substantial too. They also have no online pass.

I know it's easy to use COD as the example of everything that is wrong with the games industry, but compared to a lot of franchises (Mostly EA ones) I think it's not that bad at all.

Have to agree with Reeg on that one. Although, as I don't pay COD online I don't know how the DLC split affects the community.

Generally speaking, DLC has been a PR disaster with the way it's being used. I've stopped buying any games new that holds back sp content for later release i.e. it's on the disc. We all know it pre meditated so any bulshit about convenience and idle teams will fall on deaf ears, particularly the way games are patched for bug fixes post release.

I think with W@W it split the community up by making you backing out if you didn't have the DLC, but all the other games (Including COD 4 oddly) only matchmaked you with players without DLC if you didn't have it.

I think a small contribution of what f**ked that Kingdoms of Amalur dev up was because they announced an online pass that locked out a certain amount of missions. You can get away with it for a highly anticipated sequel I reckon but maybe not a new IP.
