Loading times from hell.....

Postby Majin Chris » 03 Mar 2006, 11:35

Well i was just looking around the net and came across this video of Raw vs Smackdown 06 on the PSP. It takes a crazy 6 mins for the game to load one match. Here's another clip of a different game but see how much gaming he gets done in the same space of time.

So i was just wondering what other games have "Loading times from hell!?"

Burnout Revenge on PS2 has ridiculous loading times. It'sa shame because it's such a class game.

San Andreas (PS2) is also worth a mention.

Summer Games, Summer Games II, Winter Games or World Games on the Commodore 64.

You loaded an event, played an event, loaded an event....

Don't forget the opening, closing ceremonies & the awards inbetween each event.

Oops! You're right. Still worth the wait, even if my dad did nearly always bloody win.

wizard of war on the speccy.

not only had it got the old "please turn tape and press play" half way through loading - you also frequently got (and always about bloomin 15 mins in) "tape read error - please rewind and try again" error.

and on one occassion after my cousin got hold of my barbarian tape i had the normal high pitched squeeling with a short break half way through to allow a bit of wham! to play. only the start bit mind - with bruno brooks saying it was number 3 in the charts.

i always loved that game - and from that day to this f**king hate bruno brooks.

Boiling Point.
It loads th eintro movies. Then it loads the menu. Then it loads the actual game. So after 6 minutes you get to play. Then it keeps pausing the load new areas too. :x
Damn you, Luigi!

World Games, oh the memories of that, used to play it constantly round our house with a load of mine and my brothers mates. Quality days they were, barrel jumping, cliff diving and weight lifting to name but a few.

They need to make an online version of this type of sporting game, cannae see why it hasn't been done up till now ovr Live. Maybe XBLA is the perfect place for it.

 Back on topic, ahem, every single ZX Spectrum game...

Ahhh the old Kempston competition Pro....memories.

I think I have you beat with Twin Kingdom Valley, 22 minutes of blue-screen C64 loading fun...Or maybe Heroes of Karn when some screens would take 5 minutes or so to draw.

As to the summer games ect, I had one of them thar converter cartridges and ported the game over to floppy discs. Mind you with the old 1541 drive it wasn't a great deal quicker

Loading times? I mock your loading times!

Anyone else have an Atari XL (or was it XE, I can never remember)? It used to take nearly 30 mins to load Mercenary or Hardball. Thank god they were great when they loaded. :)

Let's not overlook uninterrupterable cut scenes, also a bane. Final Fantasy, I'm looking at you.

Well, that's all well and good dumping the spectrum in with the topic of the original post, but back then that was typical for any non-cartridge based game.

But 6 minutes to play a game in this day and age is a complete joke.

Out of the games I have at the moment, I think Quake 3 on the PS2 is a long loader. Maps can take over a minute to load on that one. Oh and BF2 on the PC. Every bleedin' map. And lord help you if you ever change the video options and need your shaders reoptimised.

I just watched that video and the loading times are completely ludicrous.

You can always rely on that song to but a positive spin on things though.
