Issue 62

Postby MatthewONM » 26 Apr 2011, 15:46

Hey gang,

we've just received a pile of steaming hot issue 62s, so we expect them to hit subscribers any time now. All kinds of good stuff this issue, including loads of hands-on time with the next wave of 3DS games, reviews of the latest (if not greatest) Wii games and a rather lovely feature about videogame crimes. We've also interviewed the wonderful Yoshinori Ono (of Street Fighter IV fame) and attended Suda51's ultra-hip Grasshopper party.

All this and the usual blend of World of Nintendo silliness, Pokemon tat and a feature in which a brave journalist tries to convince you that the Game Gear wasn't the duffest piece of gaming kit to ever hit shop shelves. I'm not convinced, personally, but it makes for great reading nonetheless.

So do tell us what you like and what you don't like. We've been gradually changing bits of the mag over the last few months - we've updated online to a bit more relevant to your needs and to incorporate separate reviews of online modes - and would love to hear your thoughts on the updates.

Enjoy the issue!

I do love a bit of the old Pokemon tat. Hopefully the postie will have dropped this off while I'm in an exam so I can post about the tat when I get home.
Remember when they gave us the tips book? That was certainly a one off.

Pokemon tit for Pokemon tat, huh?

a feature in which a brave journalist tries to convince you that the Game Gear wasn't the duffest piece of gaming kit to ever hit shop shelves.

Oh, thats easy. Just present a Atari Jaguar or Atari Lynx as evidence.

The only bad thing about the Game Gear is that it ate batteries likes Matthew eats chocolate.

I've noticed that Tales of the Abyss is listed as a Spring 2012 for release. Given that Japan's getting it in June, does this date mean that Europe will actually be receiving the game?

It surely does. I thought this had already been announced. Hope I haven't accidentally broken some top secret embargo!

Uh, Mathew, that isn't know, like, at all. Only NoA has been stated to be getting this game, and through Nintendo Power no less. So yeah, I believe you did break an embargo.

Then I believe it would be no non-sequitur to suggest that this issue of NGamer is the best yet.

Well yes, it does indeed make this the best issue yet. Always wanted Abyss after watching hours *cough* minutes *cough* of the different games and concluding its the best. Also, BassX Pokemon tit for Pokemon tat? You aren't one of them furries are ya?

Fine, but it socks (lolcano!) in comparison to the zipcase ONM gave away a few months ago. The mag was typically mince though.

Last thing I expected was a photo of me staring back at me from my new NGamer. *Shudders*. I've been meaning to change that Twitter photo for ages, and now it's forever in print. *Shudders again*.

I'd quite like to see The View From Japan become a permanent fixture in the mag. I've always enjoyed those sorts of reports ever since the days of the Made In Japan feature in N64 Magazine. An interesting perspective on things which you don't typically see in British gaming magazines, and particularly pertinent in this issue. Good stuff.

Is it wrong that your review of Rabbids 3D made me want to go out and buy it? My current vocabulary doesn't contain the words to express how much I love bog-standard 1990's 2D platformers.

Lastly, Kittsy was wrong about Virtua Tennis 4 being the first Virtua Tennis on on a Nintendo console: the Virtua Tennis 2009 Championship Pack has a big 'NGAMER 88%' sticker on the box. I'm sure Sega will be properly chuffed with Kittsy...

NGamer GET!

I agree thoroughly with everything in the "justice" feature, especially rubberband AI. Rubbish to hear that they're making a comeback. :(

Did anyone else think that the chap in the advert smiling at the dragon breathing fire at him rather spoilt the effect it was trying to convey?
