Top Prize for Tomasz
Tomasz Fankowski has been voted Polish Player of the Year.
The award, made by his fellow professionals, was presented live on Polish television last night. The TV station, Canal Plus, linked up with Molineux to make the presentation to the striker via satellite.
Tomasz won a whopping 40 percent of the vote. In second place was Ebi Smolarek of Borussia Dortmund with 18 percent, third Maciej Zurawski of Celtic with 17 percent, fourth Artur Boruc, also of Celtic, with 16 percent and fifth Liverpool's Jerzy Dudek.
The presentation came after an evening of awards in 13 different categories, with the one going to Tomasz considered most prestigious.
Canal Plus presenter Filip Surma said: "Tomasz was the winner by a big margin. Many people believe he has made the biggest contribution to the national team getting through to the World Cup Finals. Also, his goal scoring record is very good - which is why he is known in Poland as the 'Fox in the Box'.
Tomasz, who posed for pictures with his trophy before training this morning said: "I am very happy to win this award, especially when I look at the names of the other players who were also nominated.
"Last time I won Best Striker so this is a move forward for me.
"But this award is for last year and I am a professional and now I am thinking about what I can do in the future.
"I have to show the manager at Wolves I have good form and then I will be able to show the supporters what I can do."
