Monkey Island maestro's latest is a flawed gem

Mysterious things, caves: deep, dark, dangerous structures filled with unknown entities. Horrors? Treasures? Traps? No wonder there's a subculture devoted to underground exploration: there's nothing quite as thrilling as venturing into the Earth's gut, seeing sights no other human has seen before. But The Cave's cave is more special than most.... read more

7.9..... but its made by Ron Gilbert.... at Tim Shafers place... you can add a point just for that. So a 8.9 for me.

Also, these games are all about charm and humour. The Monkey island games are not great games because of game mechanics, and this reviewer focuses only on that and the puzzles and only mentions the humour briefly. I haven't played the game yet, but i'm worried that he just didn't "get it". Not that it matters as i'm grabbing this asap as i'm a long time fan of these people...... i'm rubber you're glue.... :P

I play through Curse of Monkey Island almost once a year so repetition is not a deal breaker for me.

Sounds like a really fun title. I'm in!

I think i will have a real go at the demo before deciding to take the plunge, it doesnt jump out and grab me at all but playing it may change my mind for sure.

Repetition is probably there because they're trying to make the game last longer, whereas classic adventure games really don't last that long and people will just complain that the game is too short for what they paid for it. So you either end up buy the game as episodes or they bloat it out with stuff you do over and over again.

I've already bought it and a review by someone who clearly didn't get the game won't colour my views. Loved Monkey Island (especially 1&2). like Full Throttle, Psychonauts and Stacking. Didn't get in to Deathspank or Brutal Legend as much (or that edutainment title with the snail). That's where I am coming from. I think I will like it.
